What It Does

OpusImg is an image workspace built on a deliberate split: the everyday tools run on your device and the AI tools run on servers, and every tool is labelled with a shield badge so you know which is which before you drop a file. Compress, resize, convert, crop, PDF and scanning work with no upload, no sign-up and no usage cap, using WASM and GPU locally, with images up to 50 MB.

The 31 tools cover four families. Optimize and edit: compress, resize, format conversion (JPG, PNG, WebP free, HEIC input, AVIF on Pro), crop, social-media resizing into one ZIP, filters, color adjustment, blur and permanent redaction, passport and ID photos, watermarks, GIF making, image splitting and carousels. Document work is first-class rather than bolted on: image to PDF, PDF to image, scan cleanup, scan to searchable PDF, private OCR image-to-text, a signature maker, and signing a document. The AI set — background removal, 4× upscale, restore, denoise and face enhancement, magic eraser, generative fill — sits next to the basics and hands results back to them.

Batch is the flagship: whole folders through compress, convert and resize, 5 images per batch free and up to 500 on Business, with reusable saved batch workflows and brand kits. Auto Enhance for lighting and color is free and consumes no credits, while the heavier AI runs on a monthly credit balance.

It is a SaaS product of Axiom Opus Labs, built by a one-person team, and the site argues that the privacy position and the economics point the same way: a small operation cannot afford servers doing work a browser can do free, and has no model that depends on holding your files. An API and developer access are documented separately.

Privacy and Data Handling

The privacy policy separates local and server processing: a tool labelled "Processed on your device" decodes the file in the browser and OpusImg does not receive its contents, while tools labelled as using secure servers upload the input. It names Axiom Opus Labs as the controller, gives privacy@opusimg.com for requests, and the About page states the company has no model that depends on holding onto your files.

Strengths and Limitations

Strengths

The local-versus-server split is enforced per tool and visible per badge rather than stated once in a policy, and the PDF and scanning chain sits in the same workspace as the image edits instead of a second product.

Limitations

AI capability is credit-metered and gated behind Pro — background removal, upscale, restore, generative fill and AVIF export are not on the free plan, and Business requires a three-seat minimum.

Why I Featured It

Brings a wide range of image tools into one workspace instead of making you juggle multiple sites, and most everyday operations run directly in the browser so the file never has to be uploaded. Useful for creators, developers and anyone working with images online.

Common Questions

Is it really free?

Yes — a $0 plan with no usage cap on core browser tools and no sign-up for them (batches up to 5 images, 3 saved projects, and 1 brand kit).

Are my files uploaded?

Tools labelled 'Processed on your device' decode the file in the browser and OpusImg never receives its contents; other tools run on secure servers.
