rotli is a notes workspace built on plain Markdown files in a folder you own. Notes come first, with Docs and Sheets in beta, plus chat and boards in the same folder, and there is no account to create. You write however you think; an AI "Librarian" reads each file as you go and handles the filing, tagging and linking in the background, so organization is not a chore you have to keep up with.
AI is optional and deliberately not a second subscription. rotli can use a model running on your computer, or the AI tools you already pay for. The site argues that most paid AI capacity sits idle — citing two surveys of paying AI users — and aims to put that idle plan to work on keeping notes in order.
There is also a local-only tier of privacy: the site describes some notes as never leaving the Mac. rotli runs on macOS and in the browser today, with Windows and Linux apps listed as coming soon and Rotli Web as the interim option. It is published openly enough to be starred on GitHub, with a changelog, roadmap, guides, and MCP and command-line support for agents marked as coming soon.

The site publishes a privacy promise: files are plain Markdown you own, there is no account, the app works offline, and some notes are described as never leaving the Mac.
Ownership is the design — Markdown files in your own folder with no account — and the AI layer reuses a model you already have instead of adding a bill.
Desktop support is macOS only for now, with Windows and Linux deferred to Rotli Web, and Docs and Sheets are still labelled beta.
